By introducing the SLR Friction Free Flow Saddle as part of its race-ready SLR line, Selle Italia aims to address the 40% of riders who it claims aren't getting enough thigh clearance from a traditional saddle. The company engineered the SLR Friction Free with a much narrower nose than most saddles to lessen chafing, pilling on shorts, and improve efficiency for a select group of riders. If you're the cyclist who can't get through a full season without finding the inner thighs of your bib shorts or sides of your saddle wearing prematurely, then the Friction Free Flow might be the option for you.

 

Though its claimed weight of 185g means it's slightly heavier than some of the minimalist, carbon-railed SLR models, the Friction Free Flow is still a racing saddle at heart. It's built on lightweight titanium rails with a smooth Fibra-Tek cover that isn't afraid of the elements, so it'll last through long training miles, too. The Flow in the name of this saddle refers to Selle Italia's signature pressure-relieving cutout, which improves circulation to prevent the accumulation of damaging scar tissue in the perineum. Measuring a slim 131mm wide, this saddle won't be for everyone, but for those with narrow hips, it offers a solution much more economical than buying bib shorts in bulk.
